ALL SET FOR MAGAYA SPORTS TOURNEY

Sports Reporter

THE Magaya Sports Tournament, which organisers are calling the biggest football and netball extravaganza in Chitungwiza this year, will be held at the Unit L Grounds in Seke, tomorrow.

The tournament is being bankrolled by Prophet Walter Magaya.

It is part of his huge investment into sport in this country, which is headlined by his ownership of Premiership side Yadah FC.

The Miracle Boys have been part of the top-flight league since 2017 and have, along the way, defied expectations from many who thought they would not stay for a long time.

They currently have the league’s Most Valuable Player, Khama Billiat, who joined them at the beginning of the season after a lengthy stint in South Africa.

Yadah FC are the only Harare side in the Premiership who have their own stadium and training ground.

The organisers said the football and netball tournament was part of Magaya’s grand initiative to help the development of sport in his hometown.

“The prophet is from Chitungwiza, this is his home and his passion is to see sport in this town flourishing and he feels such tournaments are very important in giving the sports-persons a chance to showcase their talents and even get a chance to be picked by a professional side.

“The winners of the football tournament will get US$1 000, the runners-up will get US$500 and the third-placed side will get US$250.

“Every participating team will get a full kit.

“The netball winners will get US$500, the runners-up US$250 and the third-placed team will receive US$100.”
