The challenge is a full-service, three-day event for anyone who loves mountain biking organised by Active Sport. Teams of two ride north of Harare on country farm roads on routes that are not a ‘ride in the park’ but it is not about being the toughest or the roughest but rather about the magnificent views, the awesome community spirit and the camaraderie.
Teamwork will be tested as navigation is via GPS track and there is no route marking.
One of the organisers, Alan Winterton said the race is an annual event done for fun and they hope participants will enjoy this year’s edition.
“The purpose is trying to have fun, just to get out and have fun. We have 45 participants and there are three females and the rest are men. It’s all single tracks on farm roads, it’s all in the mountains. We expect everybody to have fun and enjoy because that’s what this is all about. Its an annual event and has been running for four years,” said Winterton.
The race will be done in three stages covering 186km with the first two days covering a 60km distance each and the remaining 66km will be completed on Sunday. Participants will take off tomorrow at Wingate to Heyshott farm in Glendale. On Saturday they will proceed to Bonny farm Arcadia before taking a rest. They will finish the race on Sunday at the Cave Affair, Domboshawa.
