Arts and Culture sector in Zimbabwe is poised for growth if stakeholders come together and make solutions for the problems faced by the sector. As such the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe has invited several stakeholders of the industry to attend the Arts and Culture Indaba that will be held at Cresta Lodge in Msasa.The two-day Indaba begins on tomorrow.
In a statement the arts governing authority’s communications manager, Catherine Mthombeni, said the dialogue that is held annually seeks to deliberate and recommend the way forward for the sector.
“The Indaba is a National Arts and Culture Strategy Dialogue is held annually to discuss, deliberate and recommend specific courses of action in the cultural sector. It is a platform for stakeholders in the arts and culture sector to meet and dialogue on issues affecting the development and future of the sector, as well as taking stock of sector achievements,” she noted.
It stated that this year’s Indaba will also incorporate the validation process of the quadrennial report for the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Zimbabwe.
Artists, promoters and other stakeholders of the industry have been called to attend the Indaba.
Crticts said it was crucial to discuss issues together for the development of the industry and stop the blame game.
“It is important to have such workshops and people should attend so that they discuss way forward. Sometimes it will be unfair to blame NACZ,” a critic said.
He said it was good that they call for such meetings that bring brains together for the benefit of the arts sector.
“These meetings are encouraged in the arts sector because brains come together for the benefit of the sector,” he added.
