ALL is set for the Old Mutual 15km and 10km Fun Race that will start and finish at the Nkulumane complex with about 572 athletes having confirmed participation with more runners expected to make late entries. Among the multitudes of athletes are seasoned campaigners who include Olivia Chitate and Elijah Mabhunu who won the womens’ and mens’ 10km race last season.
However, the duo will face stiff challenge from Zimbabwe’s long distance dela creame that includes Constance Nyasango, Faith Nyasango, Virimai Zhuwawo, Nkosiyazi Sibanda, Tendai Zimuto and Wellington Varevi, among others.
Bulawayo Athletics Board chairman Manuel Mpofu said it was all systems go, thanking the athletes and the sponsors in equal measure for showing interest in the race.
The race is set to start at 6:30 am.
The winners of both the mens’ and womens’ races will pocket $500, runners-up $400, third place $300 while the fourth and fifth placed athletes will go home with $250 and $200, respectively.
