All set for SARPCCO games

All is set for the official opening of the 2013 Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation games here today. Zimbabwe Republic Police officials arrived here last Friday to attend SARPCCO games to be held at Independence Stadium in the capital. Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri is also here with his delegation and they are expected to attend the ceremony.

ZRP is set to battle it out with 13 other Southern African Development Community police teams in seven sporting events which are athletics, darts, chess, football (men and women), netball, volleyball (men and women) and tennis.

By late last night participants were rehearsing. ZRP is expecting talented athletes among them Trust Chidomaya, Olivia Chitate, Kennedy Chibwana, Pauline Jani, Honey Chimutimunzeve, Farai Janyure, Belinda Sibanda among others to deliver.

The team has been training at University of Namibia grounds, Independence Stadium and Namibia Agricultural College.
A number of sports persons are trickling in for the games which Team Zimbabwe is hoping to make it three times in a row after having conquered in Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2009 and 2011 respectively.

Countries that have arrived include Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Lesotho and Swaziland.
