Mat North PCC in post-election indaba

THE Matabeleland North Zanu-PF Provincial Co-ordinating Committee met in Lupane on Saturday to conduct a post-mortem of the just ended harmonised elections in which the party won seven out of 13 National Assembly seats. In an interview with our Bulawayo Bureau yesterday, provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said the leadership discussed loopholes in constituencies where the party lost with the view of mending them in the next elections.

“The provincial leadership did a post-mortem of the elections in all the constituencies. We congratulated the councillors and National Assembly candidates who won seats for the party,” said Cde Moyo.

“We urged those who lost to continue working with the people and that the winners should not forget the people who voted them.”
Cde Moyo said the leadership noted some loopholes that needed to be addressed for the party to win all the seats in 2018.

He said lack of proper leadership co-ordination was highlighted as a major factor that affected the party’s mobilisation efforts.
“We realised that in districts such as Binga and Nkayi the leadership was not working in harmony and this affected our outreach programmes,” said Cde Moyo.
“In Tsholotsho North for instance the campaign teams did not hold effective rallies.

“The party’s defeat in Hwange East and Central was mainly linked to concern over payment of workers at Hwange Colliery Company.”
Cde Moyo, however, said the party was waiting for the swearing-in of new Government office bearers after which it would continue with its programmes.

“After the inauguration of the new Government we will go back to the people and work with them.
“We now appreciate their grievances because they told us during the campaigns.

“We are happy that we got three more seats from four in the 2008 polls and we celebrate that. Next time we want to win all seats like our counterparts in Matabeleland South.”

The constituencies won by Zanu-PF in the province are Umguza, Bubi, Nkayi North, Hwange West, Tsholotsho South, Lupane East and Lupane West.
