Preparations for this year’s Tertiary Sports Association of Zimbabwe Games that will be held at Kwekwe Polytechnic College in a fortnight are at an advanced stage.
The annual Games will see 12 tertiary learning institutions battling it out for honours in different sports scheduled to run from April 1 to 6.
Local Organising Committee chairperson Mr Bothwell Kufa said the Games had been moved to allow for schools to close.
“Tentatively, the Games were scheduled to start on March 28 and end on April 1, but we have shifted them so that schools can close since we will be using other schools for various facilities,” he said.
Mr Kufa said different venues for the Games had been secured.
“We have secured Kwekwe High School that will host tennis, rugby, handball, and athletics and ladies football,” he said. Kwekwe Sports Club and Mbizo Cricket Club will play host to the cricket games.”
Kwekwe Polytechnic College will be host to all indoor games, basketball, netball, volleyball and one pool of men’s football, while other football matches will be played at Mbizo Stadium.
Mr Kufa said preparations were going on smoothly, with almost every participating tertiary institution having confirmed.
“Preparations are going on smoothly and so far I am happy to announce that we have secured facilities for use during the competitions,” he said. “We also have secured accommodation at Kwekwe Primary School to add on to that offered by the college.”
Apart from the country’s nine polytechnic colleges, Zimbabwe School of Mines, Msasa Vocational Training Centre and Westgate Vocational Training Centre are set to participate in the competitions.
Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube is expected to officiate at the official opening of the Games on April 1 at the college campus.
