All set for U17 Nash national competitions

ZIMBABWE secondary schools’ Under-17 soccer teams will meet in Chinhoyi on Wednesday ahead of Thursday and Friday’s National Association of Secondary School Heads Ball Games finals.

Chinhoyi High School are the hosts, representing Mashonaland West.

Twelve teams will take part in the event represented by provincial champions in the different disciplines.

The NASH games have over the years been an integral part of sport development in the country.

Bulawayo left the city on Wednesday morning showing much confidence.

Mpopoma High School will represent Bulawayo Metropolitan Province in the soccer competitions for both boys and girls.

The boys’ team qualified after beating Lobengula High School in the final 5-0.

Mpopoma has in recent years given Zimbabwe players like Highlanders’ Reason Sibanda, Gerald Sibanda, Mpumelelo Sibanda, Reward Muza, Brighton Makopa and Junior Makunike.

Cain Ncube, the provincial Head in charge of soccer said that they are looking forward to stiff competition as top school teams will be participating and he believes Mpopoma High School will win.

“Mpopoma High School has assembled strong teams which can face any opponent on their way, therefore the team is ready to go and deliver,” said Ncube.

James Rugwevera, the teacher in charge of sport at Mpopoma High School said that they travel with a delegation of 25 boys and five teachers.

“We are prepared for the championship and we are playing to bring the championship to Bulawayo, for the community,” said Rugwevera.
