All set for YES Games

THE provincial finals of the Youth Education through Sport (YES) start tomorrow in Matabeleland.
Amhlophe High School in Pumula will host the Bulawayo provincial finals while in Matabeleland South the games will be held at Mzinyathini High School.
In Matabeleland North the finals will be held over two days at Nkayi Secondary School.
Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) provincial co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu said the stage was set for the city festival.

“Everything is set for the YES games festival, we are happy everything is in order even our partners Plan International have come aboard with prizes,” he said.

Twenty one teams from Khami, Reigate, Mzilikazi and Imbizo will compete for the berth to represent the province in the YES national games to be held in Masvingo early next month.

Athletes representing schools and clubs will compete in three disciplines soccer, volleyball and netball with only athletes in the Under-15 age group eligible to participate.

Matabeleland South’s co-ordinator Lifa Mpofu said the stage was set as four districts Matobo, Gwanda, Beitbridge and Umzingwane are expected to clash  in the finals.

Matabeleland North co-ordinator Newman Masuku said there are out to break the jinx that has seen the province tail enders in most junior events.

“For the past two years, I feel like we are improving as a province and I hope this time will show it at the national stage,” said Masuku.
