Comment: All set for Zanu-PF Conference

THE Zanu-PF conference set to convene in Bulawayo on Tuesday, is pivotal for the ruling party as it seeks to consolidate its power and outline its strategic direction for continued social and economic transformation.

The agenda for the conference is expected to cover several critical areas that reflect both the party’s internal affairs and the broader socio-economic challenges facing Zimbabwe. There are several key topics likely to be discussed.

High on the agenda will be economic strategies. Given the ongoing economic challenges, including currency stability, the conference will likely focus on strategies to revitalise the economy. This will involve discussions on agricultural productivity, mining, and foreign investment.

Party unity is another issue that will likely be on the agenda. The conference will certainly serve as a platform to reinforce party unity.

In addition, youth and women engagement will also likely come up on the agenda. Recognising the importance of youth and women in shaping the future of the party and the nation, there will likely be discussions on how to better engage young people and women in politics and development.

Social services and infrastructure development are important issues that the ruling party and Government will continue to focus on. The need for improved healthcare, education, and infrastructure will also likely be on the agenda, reflecting the party’s commitment to addressing the needs of the populace.

Not to be left out will be international relations. The conference may also touch on Zimbabwe’s foreign policy, particularly its relations with neighbouring countries and international organisations.

The conference is expected to attract a wide array of delegates. High-ranking officials from the Zanu-PF hierarchy, including members of the Politburo and Central Committee, will be present to discuss and shape party policy.

Government representatives, including ministers and other Government officials will likely attend to align the party’s agenda with national governance strategies. Delegates from various provinces will represent the grassroots, ensuring that the voices of ordinary party members are heard in the decision-making process.

There will also be interest from invited observers and diplomats, keen to follow the political climate in Zimbabwe and the ruling party’s direction.
The resolutions that will emerge from the conference will be crucial in determining the party’s trajectory.

A resolution to implement specific economic reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and attracting investment could be a significant outcome. This may include measures to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the business environment.

Another resolution could focus on strengthening party cohesion. A reaffirmation of party unity and a commitment to move forward as one unit could emerge. The conference may result in the establishment of new programmes aimed at empowering youth and women politically and economically, recognising their role in the party’s future.

Resolutions may include commitments to improve healthcare and education systems, addressing the pressing needs of the population. In addition, the conference could also come up with a resolution focusing on economic diplomacy as the country continues with its commitment to boost investment and trade.
