All set for Zanu PF conference

ALL that is needed to cater for delegates at the Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference which kicks-off in Gweru on Wednesday is now in place with final touches now being made to ensure a successful gathering, the ruling party has said.

Zanu PF Director for Information and Publicity, Cde Farai Marapira, told The Herald yesterday that this year’s conference would centre on taking stock of gains achieved this year, most notably the ruling party’s August harmonised elections victory.

“Preparations are going very well, they are above 80 percent complete on the venue. All the things that are needed to cater for the delegates are already in place and it looks like it’s going to be a resounding success and very organised as usual,” he said.

Cde Marapira said a pot-pourri of issues, among them economic and social issues, would be discussed to ensure the country continues on its growth trajectory under the ruling party’s leadership.

“Conferences are very important because Zanu PF is a party with structures, it communicates through its structures to the rest of its members so when people come to the conference we are taking stock of our party policy. Remember party policy is what guides Government policy, the party is supreme.

“We will be looking at the macro-economic plans that we have, developments, how we are looking at countering perennial problems such as sanctions, how our projects on countering global warming are going, it’s a platform for the whole structure to sit down, introspect, suggest, develop and come out stronger,” he said.

The meeting will take place at the Midlands Zanu PF Convention Centre, on the outskirts of Gweru.

The event will commence with a meeting of the Central Committee and Politburo in Harare, before party members convene at the Convention Centre on Friday and Saturday.

The conference will see a business expo running concurrently with the main events. Delegates are already being accredited and logistics have been put in place for their accommodation and transportation.
