THERE is no room for favouritism in Fifa statutes with all teams under the world football governing body’s jurisdiction treated equally, Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said on Wednesday. Gwesela was allaying fears that the ongoing player wrangle between Zifa Southern Region Division One side Tsholotsho FC and Castle Lager Premier Soccer League outfit Triangle United would be swept under the carpet in order to protect the Lowveld side.
The two clubs are at each other’s throats over the ownership of Pasca Manhanga after Tsholotsho FC made stunning revelations that Manhanga, their former player, was never cleared to play for the Premiership side while Triangle are arguing that they got clearance from Mutare United.
“We treat all teams equally, if Tsholotsho FC take their case to the Players’ Status Committee, they will be afforded the same treatment or respect as Triangle.
“Zifa does not operate like those characters in the novel Animal Farm where some animals were deemed more equal than others,” said Gwesela.
Gwesela said Zifa always advocated for teams to follow laid down statutory requirements whenever there are issues that need to be tackled instead of resorting to the courts of law.
“If Tsholotsho FC approach the Players’ Status Committee then we commend them because that has always been Zifa’s call for affiliates to approach relevant committees whenever there are disputes,” said Gwesela.
The Lizwe Sweswe-coached rural outfit’s executive told Chronicle Sport yesterday that they will be filing their papers with the relevant body today.
