DENDERA father figure, Allan Chimbetu and the Central Committee are expected in Bulawayo today where they will perform at Hustlers’ Nightclub.
The show is part of Chimbetu’s Matabeleland tour which will see him perform in Victoria Falls on Friday and Hwange on Saturday before coming back to Bulawayo for a show on Sunday at Whatever Sports Bar in New Lobengula.
In an interview, Allan’s manageress Abigal Kuleya said they were excited about the Matabeleland tour and they would use it to establish a strong fan base in the region.
“Fans will sample our new songs from the forthcoming album. They should expect a great show from us as we are coming to the region at our best,” she said.
Kuleya made it clear that Allan had not rejoined Orchestra Dendera Kings but had been asked to join the band on its cancelled United Kingdom tour.
“His son, Sulumani Chimbetu, came asking for his help which he agreed to but it was just for that weekend. He is now back with his band, the Central Committee and soon will be releasing an album to show fans how serious he is with his own project,” she said.
The talented choreographer made a shocking move in May last year when he joined Sulumani Chimbetu leaving the band in the hands of his son Douglas. He is back in charge and his last show in Bulawayo was in August. The show was spoilt by poor attendance though he gave a good performance.
Madzibaba Allan, as he is affectionately known, is a talented musician as he can dance, sing and play guitars mainly lead and rhythm.
Hustlers’ entertainment manager Simon Gama said the Chimbetu show was a dress rehearsal to the Road to Fame show they will be hosting on Friday.
“Allan will set the tone for the Road to Fame show and we are encouraging people to come in their numbers for his show as well as the Road to Fame competition,” he said.
