MIDLANDS State University has received a shot in the arm after one of their former accounting students, Lazarus Maringehosi donated a Taekwondo kit worth over US$2 000 to the university’s sports department.
The kit was sourced through Zimbabwe Taekwondo Association from the South Korean Embassy in Zimbabwe for use by the Taekwondo club during their competitions.
According to an online post by the higher institution of learning, taekwondo as a sport was introduced at the college by the benefactor while still a student at the institution some years back.
“Taekwondo was first introduced at MSU by Maringehosi who is also serving as the coach while the club participated at the Zimbabwe University Sports Association games from which it brought home four medals.
“In addition to that the university has participated in the Korean Ambassador Cup which were held in 2018 in Harare,” said MSU.
The handover ceremony of the kit which was held recently at the main Campus in Gweru was presided over by the MSU Director of Sports James Chivivi.
The MSU Taekwondo club has so far participated at the Zimbabwe University Sports Association games where won four medals. In addition to that they also participated in the Korean Ambassador Cup held in 2018 in Harare.
Over the years the college has proved their mantle in sports as shown by the performance of their sportsperson both many as well as women during the recently ended Zusa games held at Nust as well as Africa University in Mutare.
During this year’s edition of the Zusa games cluster one MSU managed to give the perennial champions UZ a run for their money winning a number of medals in various competition.
