IT’S a raw fact that behind every successful man, there is a strong and bold woman.
The case of Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, the wife to the iconic President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, President Mugabe immediately crops to mind. At her marriage ceremony in the cool environs of Zvimba in 1996 to the legendary African luminary, the so-called political analysts were skeptical of the then 31-year-old First Lady’s capacity to continue supporting President Mugabe in his private and official capacity as Head of State and Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Amai Mugabe’s impeccable character and solid advice to her husband stands as testimony to the true meaning of the above adage. She has been an exemplary figure, which any woman should emulate.

Amai Mugabe has stood with her husband in both cloudy and glorious moments, in the process poking the loud mouthed and doomsayers straight in their face. Recent events in the political landscape of Zimbabwe have unveiled the First Lady as a political gem, indeed a prized possession which stands to benefit the country in immeasurable ways.

That some with a penchant for political commentary have run short of superlatives to describe her recent invitation by the all powerful Zanu-PF Women’s League to lead it is a sign of a giant entering a field where success is inevitable.

Amai Mugabe’s track record speaks volumes of her empathy for the poor, downtrodden and the despised. Just looking back at the Danhiko Centre which houses the physically challenged, its yesterdays when it used to face numerous challenges and its present day impressive status after the entry of Amai Mugabe as its patron, one is bound to pour plaudits on this woman of virtue.

True, she is a champion whom the less privileged can lean on, they are indeed guaranteed as enunciated by the Liverpool fans’ enthusing chorus which goes ‘You can never walk alone.’ With Amai Mugabe at the helm of Danhiko, it is certain that even better days will unfold for these children who need special attention.

Her philanthropy has led her to create a home for abandoned children drawn from the country’s ten provinces. The orphanage has excellent conditions which surpass the already existing conditions in other care centers, a feat which they should also take aboard.

The institution is also privileged with a state-of-the-art school which provides quality education for these once forsaken children who now have the First Lady as their only hope in life. It is only an extraordinary mind with a divine dimension which can undertake such a spiritually uplifting task. Surely, the whole nation of Zimbabwe can safely count itself lucky to have such a virtuous woman being their First Lady.

At the peak of the sanctions-induced hardships, Amai Mugabe went out of her way to source groceries for the entire country just for someone to have at least a decent meal. Zimbabweans will never forgive the MDCs in their various formations for pleading for these diabolic economic sanctions which unleashed untold suffering to ordinary people.

At least Amai Mugabe discerned the pain and anguish which engulfed the populace then and speedily moved in with a momentous gesture of providing groceries. Zimbabweans shall forever be grateful for these kind gestures from the First Lady.

The First Lady showed a glimpse of the superb towering political figure she is during the 2008 Presidential Runoff when together with her iconic husband, President Mugabe, spearheaded the campaign trail which led to the humiliating defeat of the West’s stooge and shameless Trojan horse, the controversy-ridden, Morgan Tsvangirai, who recently engaged the British with the usual devilish mantra of tightening the sanctions under the guise of a so-called chat show at the Chatham House Royal Institute of International Affairs. Tsvangirai should come to his senses and realise that Zimbabweans will never vote for an ignoramus who is at cross roads with their aspirations and expectations of the people. Amai Mugabe traversed the entire country campaigning for Zimbabweans to vote overwhelmingly for the party of liberation, Zanu-PF’s candidate, President Mugabe, who then won with a resounding victory.

The country’s independence was at stake hence the First Lady had to momentarily join the political field to defend the motherland.
This then exhibited the other side of the Amai Mugabe who eloquently narrated to the populace the importance of being ruled by a morally upright character in the mould of President Mugabe whose love for the country is admirable. As expected, Zimbabweans listened to the mother of the nation and endorsed President Mugabe as their leader.

Zanu-PF Women’s League then made a loud statement of the First Lady’s impeccable political credentials when they invited her to lead them. The humble figure of the First Lady deserves such grand recognition. The recent wedding of the First Family’s only daughter Bona is ample testimony of an able mother whose moral grounding is firm.

Indeed, the political field will never be the same with the arrival of Amai Mugabe who will certainly add value to the political discourse of this great nation.

May God continue to abundantly bless the country’s First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe.
