AMAKHOSI Cricket Club 2 have been crowned champions of the 2026 Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First League, edging fellow contenders Queens Sports Club 1.

The two teams finished tied on 50 points after 16 matches in the combined T20 and 50-over league standings.

It was the Emakhandeni Cricket Club-based Amakhosi 2 who were ultimately crowned champions due to a superior head-to-head record against Queens Sports Club.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub, Amakhosi Cricket Club 2 head coach Farai “Slim” Gunda said it was a proud moment for the club and a reward for the hard work put in throughout the season, as well as a reflection of the team’s character.

Gunda said he was proud of his players for remaining true to the club’s values.

“Winning the BMCA First League with Amakhosi 2 is a reflection of the character in this squad. From pre-season to the final game, these players committed to our values — hard work, putting the team first, and relentless improvement. They trusted the process when things got tough, pushed each other in every session, and played for the badge every single week,” said Gunda.

The Amakhosi 2 gaffer also credited the club’s management for creating an environment that allows players to flourish while remaining true to themselves.

“Credit to the management, parents and club for creating the environment where young players can thrive. This title is a milestone, not the destination — we’re already building for what comes next,” he said.

He also shared a message for the players: “To the boys, this win belongs to you. You’ve set the standard for every Amakhosi team that comes after you. Proud to coach this group.”

From 16 matches across both the 50-over and T20 formats, Amakhosi 2 won 11 matches, lost two and had three encounters end without a result. Queens Sports Club, who had to settle for second place, recorded the same statistics.

Amakhosi Cricket Club 1 finished third with 32 points, while Wholesale Beef Bulls settled for fourth place with 22 points.

It was a difficult season for Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC), who anchored the standings with minus three points. BAC lost 15 of their 16 matches, with one ending in no result. – @brandon_malvin
