The awards were held on Saturday afternoon, with Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Thaba Moyo the guest of honour.
The Golden performance is the final performance by all winners in categories joined together to come up with a unique performance.
This year there were two categories, music and dance with 16 participants battling for honours.
The Golden performance had winner of the music category, Tholakele Ndlovu, singing a rendition of British sensation, Adele’s hit song, Someone Like You.
Stanlus Mpofu and Mthulisi Kesa, who came second and third in the music category, provided hip hop lyrics to liven up the song with second placed in the dance category, Explosion, doing a break dance.
The beat stepped up a notch and last year’s winners Loxion Stone standing in for this years winners Amapopcorn took to the stage to the dance version of Someone Like You.
Their highly energetic pansula dance antics were a sight to see as the golden performance came to an end.
Speaking after the event, Clr Moyo said he wanted to be part of the nurturing of young artistic talent hence his presence.
He said he was impressed with the level of talent that he saw and commended the organisers of the event for having the vision of organising the event.
“The day was great. The performances I saw were so wonderful the city surely has talent to showcase,” said Clr Moyo.
He said as Bulawayo has been twinned with other cities regionally and internationally and cultural exchanges would be easier when the city has a vibrant arts sector.
Executive director of Amakhosi Cultural Centre Cont Mhlanga said it was pleasing to note that the Mayor took time out of his busy schedule to come and spend the day with them.
He said the awards were about exposing new talent.
“I have always said to people, with proper training and enough exposure, money will come automatically. This is why we are doing this,” said Mhlanga.
He said last year he did all the organising of the event but this year a group of students did the work.
“This year I stepped down and the young students did a good job. They did things professionally. It is good to see them grow,” said Mhlanga.
