Amakhosi’s musical clash motivates local artistes

 

Amasotsha, representing the Kwaito category, hip hop artiste Sean D alongside his Gymo group made up of Camilla “Camzie”, Shazz-Candy and T/Punk, made it to the finals.

Hundreds of people converged at Amakhosi theatre and were left  asking for more as the groups mesmerised them with their dance routines and hip-hop lyrics.

The audience were afford an opportunity to vote for their favourite artistes.
In an interview, hip-hop artiste Sean D said the event was a good move as it catered for all the different genres as far as Kwaito and hip-hop were concerned.

“The programme is good because it affords artistes an opportunity to showcase their talents.
“Such events broaden local artistes’ fan base considering that the platform would be open for the audience to vote,” said the rapper who is also on the top 8 rap chart in the city.

Umthombo Arts director Thulani Mbambo said artistes who participated in this month’s event showed a lot of discipline.

“I was impressed by the discipline shown by every artiste who took part in the event.
“It shows a lot of respect for what they are doing and I urge them to stay disciplined,” he said.

Mbambo also said those who made it to the finals are set to take part in the upcoming event where more local groups are geared to lock horns.

The director also said competition was stiff and it was not easy for the audience to  decide the winners.
“Every artiste who took part was on stage for a purpose and the competition was stiff.
“This speaks volumes about our local talent,” he said.

The event started at around 2pm and it ended at around 7pm.
The next event will be held next month.
