FANS of Imbube music group Amaqaqa are set for an exciting Christmas celebration, as the multi-award-winning ensemble has curated a special end-of-year show dedicated entirely to their supporters. The event is scheduled for December 21 at the Bulawayo Theatre.
Dubbed “Amaqaqa End of the Year Show”, the event will see the group share the stage with Gospel A cappella outfit Udonsi LwabaPostoli and Maskandi musician, UGagisa.
Amaqaqa spokesperson and member Mohau Ncube said as 2025 draws to a close, the group felt compelled to host a show that celebrates their successful year while honouring the fans whose unwavering support continues to propel them.
“We believe we’re a highly respected Imbube ensemble from Bulawayo, with the ability to captivate our followers through our unique acappella sound. Our fans have played a significant role in helping us achieve everything we’ve accomplished, particularly this year.
“As a way of wrapping up the year, we decided to craft this end-of-year show as a special dedication to them because they’ve stood with us ever since,” said Ncube.
He said the group has selected a powerful set list drawn from their rich catalogue, blending signature tracks with fans’ favourites that will be performed during the show. These include Lamlela Ndwandwe, Maxikixiki, Umculo Wesicathamiya, Insakavukela, Emkulwini, Induku Emakhandakhanda, Ngilimele, Icala Kaliboli, Jesu Khristu Dwala Lami, Lizimithisa Mahala, Inqola Yomlilo, Amanamnede, Inganono, as well as Highlanders FC supporters’ favourite Jukwa Lakhwelimota.
“We have carefully curated a playlist featuring beloved songs that have resonated with the public. In addition to these fan favourites, we’ve incorporated some exciting new tracks to offer a fresh listening experience.
“This thoughtful combination aims to provide a diverse and enjoyable selection for everyone. We believe this blend of familiar tunes and new additions will truly enhance our fans’ enjoyment, and we’re confident that this arrangement will be warmly appreciated,” Ncube said.
Amaqaqa enjoyed a fruitful year, performing at many of Bulawayo’s most prestigious events. On May 31, they hosted their first stand-alone show at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. They also participated in the Bulawayo Arts Festival, sharing the stage with other leading Imbube groups.
In August, they recorded their fourth album, Insakavukela Umchilo Wesidwaba, which they later launched in September at the Hope Centre. Their journey also took them to South Africa, where they presented the same album to their Mzansi-based fans with a performance at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg.
Adding to their milestones, Amaqaqa are nominated for the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) taking place on December 20. They are up for Outstanding Imbube/Acappella Group, alongside Great Stars, Ijongosi and Amaculo Enjabulo.
“We are truly honoured by the recognition we received at the BAAs. This acknowledgment shows that our hard work is being noticed and appreciated. It serves as a powerful motivator, inspiring us to continue striving for excellence in all our endeavours. This encouragement fuels our passion and strengthens our commitment to delivering outstanding work. We are deeply grateful for this validation of our efforts,” Ncube added.
