IN a bid to reduce emergency response times on the national highway, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has partnered Discovery Ambulance Services and stationed ambulances at all accident hot spots across the country.
The ambulances will carry road users for free from any accident scene.
TSCZ CEO, Mr Munesu Munodawafa, said ambulances had been dispatched to areas as far as Beitbridge.
“We have ambulances in Wedza, 22 Miles, Beitbridge, Chiredzi, among others. What is interesting to note is that hotspots that have a high frequency of accidents, like Makuti in Karoi, Mashonaland West and Connemara in Midlands, have a dedicated ambulance so that if anything happens, emergency medical teams respond fast.”
Speaking to The Herald, Discovery Ambulance Services founder and CEO Dr David Munowenyu said the deal will also see ambulances stationed at 100km intervals.
“We are proud to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the people of Zimbabwe. This strengthened partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe underscores our shared mission: to save lives, enhance emergency response and keep communities safe during the festive season and beyond,” he said.
“The idea is to have an ambulance close by, no matter how far you travel away from the capital. In pre-hospital care, there is what is called the ‘golden hour’ theory, which basically explains that the sooner one gets medical help, the higher their chances of surviving an emergency. So, in this regard, we are sending our ambulances to all areas across the country,” said Dr Munowenyu.
He said all people needed to do was dial Discovery Ambulances Services’ toll-free number, 991, and the free ambulances would be dispatched.
