America’s Robert Francis Prevost elected new Pope

Robert Francis Prevost has been elected the 267th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and took the name Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first Pope from the United States.

Cardinal Prevost was elected pontiff on the second day of the conclave, becoming leader of 1.4 billion Roman Catholics.

He appeared on the balcony on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy, and greeted the people gathered by saying, “Peace be with you.”
