AMMARA Brown is not just a pretty face behind a microphone with a good voice, nor is she just the daughter of one of Zimbabwe’s music stalwarts the late Andy Brown; she is a philanthropist of note.
She just started working with the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (Unicef) in a project called #GOBLUE — to be held on World Children’s Day (20 November).
“Ammara is going to be part of the #GOBLUE event hosted by Unicef on World Children’s Day as well as other programmes. She is not yet an official ambassador but will be working with Unicef as part of an ongoing process before her role becomes official.
“Ammara decided to do this for free as she has always loved children and helping the needy,” said Don Kabanga her manager.
A talented and fearless musician, Ammara has never shied away from speaking out about the ills and vices that are faced by women in the music industry.
She jumped at the opportunity to stand side by side with children and their plight when Unicef came up with the proposal.
“She decided to be part of the Unicef project because it’s always been her dream to uplift women, the girl child and children in general. She is born in a female dominated family and has always felt strongly about speaking out about how women are taken advantage of in the music industry,” he said.
Unicef is a non-profit organisation that was created by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on 11 December 1946 to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in underprivileged communities.
