Amnesty beneficiary arrested for stealing motor vehicle

A 20-YEAR-OLD ex-convict from Ruwa has been arrested for stealing a motor vehicle in Kwekwe, just 14 days after he was released from Marondera prison on amnesty.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident that occurred on March 11 in Redcliff town.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is informing the general public about the arrest of a suspect for unlawful entry into premises and theft of a motor vehicle. The suspect was arrested at Murombedzi Business Centre on March 16 at around 4 pm,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the suspect is Benjamin Manyangadze, aged 20, of Ruwa.

Manyangadze, Insp Mahoko said, was recently released from Marondera Prison on March 2, where he was serving for six counts of unlawful entry and theft.

“The offence was committed on March 11 at around 5 pm in Redcliff. The complainant, Tawanda Godfrey Magure, had his house broken into while he was away,” he said.

“Stolen from inside the house were – car keys of a Peugeot, US$1 800 cash, a techno cellphone and other items of property.

“The criminal then stole the Peugeot, which was parked in the yard and drove it away.”

Insp Mahoko said March 16, detectives spotted the stolen motor vehicle being driven along Chinhoyi – Chegutu road.

“The police detectives roped in ZRP Murombedzi to assist, resulting in the motor vehicle being intercepted at Murombedzi Business Centre,” he said.

Subsequently, Insp Mahoko said Manyangadze was arrested and the stolen motor vehicle and techno cellphone were recovered.

“Total value stolen is US$9 920 and the recovered motor vehicle and cellphone are valued at US$7 500,” he said.
