The United States government has committed to deepening cooperation with Zimbabwe with a promise to a future in which the two nations will learn from each other and build opportunities that endure for generations.US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pamela Tremont made the remarks at the launch of the Freedom 250 initiative, a year-long program a year-long program marking 250 years of American independence from Britain in 1776.
“As we reflect on 250 years of American spirit and 45 years of US-Zimbabwe partnership, let us commit to a future in which our nations learn from each another, support one another, and build opportunities that endure for generations.
“This is a historic year for the United States. President Trump has launched a year of events across the US, around the world, and right here in Zimbabwe, to commemorate 250 years of independence under the banner of Freedom 250,” Ambassador Tremont said.
During the year-long initiative, US will bring speakers to Zimbabwe, host business showcases, cultural events, mentorship initiatives, and community engagements aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties and advancing shared prosperity.
Ambassador Tremont highlighted that education and exchange programs between the two countries have remained central to the bilateral relationship as they have partnered across key sectors, including health, education, entrepreneurship, economic growth, and democratic governance.
The US has also provided support to Zimbabwe through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) towards achieving the 95-95-95 HIV targets to strengthen health care systems and saving lives, including the introduction of the new HIV prevention option such as lenacapavir.
