Sungura musician Gift “Case” Amuli has had a fair share of misfortunes over the past six years.
In 2019 and exactly two years after recording his last studio album “Masvingo”, which solicited mixed views amongst fans, Amuli was involved in a near fatal accident.
He was critically injured and needed an implant in his arm, which was removed only recently.
Before the mishap, the Zvishavane Sounds boss was putting together his seventh project which he intended to release at the end of that year.
Everything went down the drain after that accident which left him hospitalised for months.
He could not hold shows either and when he was beginning to feel better, the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world.
For once he decided to refocus his attention to other things like mining to be able to look after his family.
Music is his heart and soul though and the Wamatuka hitmaker even tried his hand at Hip-Hop and Zimdancehall.
Actually, he recorded some singles in those genres with neutrals and fans alike appreciating the efforts.
But he did that as a way of staying in the game since he didn’t want to rush back to the more demanding Sungura genre given he was still feeling the pains from the injuries sustained in that 2019 accident.
He has shifted base from Zvishavane to Harare and over the past few months, Amuli has been attracting full houses at his shows.
But he is now back with a new album titled “Stupendous”, which is set for launch at Tanza Centre today.
The project carries six songs including what is already being touted as the hit song “Bulldog”, on which he featured Zimdancehall powerhouse Hwindi President.
Amuli said he will also release a DVD album on the project on the same day.
“I am delighted to announce that we are back in full throttle. We have done our seventh studio album which we will launch this Friday at Tanza Centre in Chitungwiza,” said Amuli. “We last did an album which is titled Masvingo in 2017.
“I suffered some horrific injuries in an accident in 2019. Then Covid-19 also disturbed us in a very big way. As a way of keeping tabs with our fans, we did some Zimdancehall and Hip-Hop singles.
“But we are now back with this Christmas present which we believe fans will love. We are also dropping a video album for the project.”
Amuli burst into the scene in 2002 with his debut project Wedangwe which was decently received before his chart-topping Munombozvigona Sei, which carried one of the best songs to be produced in Zimbabwe this millenium, Wamatuka in 2006.
He followed that up with By Ginya (2008) before Machena the year that followed.
He would go for six years without getting into the studio as he pursued other personal interest before his come back album Yave Munesu released in 2015.
