AT a time many football enthusiasts have wondered why Warriors defender Devine Lunga is yet to kick the ball at Mamelodi Sundowns this season, his handlers have revealed that the player is awaiting the outcome of his permanent residence permit application that will see him registered as a local by the club.
The Mpopoma bred footie star returned to free-spending Masandawana from a season-long loan stay at Golden Arrows last term but has not featured for the DStv Premiership champions this season. “Devine is a Sundowns player. I’m not aware that Mamelodi Sundowns are thinking of releasing him anytime soon. He is just awaiting his permanent residence permit so that the club can register him as a local player not a foreigner.
“For a foreigner to be registered as a local player in South Africa, one needs to have played in Super Diski for five years. This is a feat that Devine has achieved. Permanent residence procedures have seen him being starved of game time,” said Lunga’s manager Gibson Mahachi.
There are suggestions that he might get the crucial document at the start of 2024.
