LEON Ndlovu is relishing the choice he made when he put his rugby career on hold to become a Sport Nutritionist.
He has worked with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Mamelodi Sundowns.
LA Galaxy, Tottenham Hotspur Women’s team and Atletico Madrid are also on the pile of the top teams he has worked with.
Last year, he was a recipient of the Southern Africa Best Nutrition Influencer.
“I grew up playing rugby, football, cricket and was involved in athletics, I did my O’ Levels at Ellis Robins and my A’ level at Churchill Boys High.
“I was blessed to get a rugby scholarship to play professionally in South Africa immediately after my A’ Level.
“I struggled to progress further with my career because I had no agent and teams were taking advantage of my situation because I didn’t have a back-up plan.”
Ndlovu said his gamble to abandon his dream to enrol with the University of Fort Hare paid off.
“An American company approached me with an offer to be their nutritionist influencer in health and wellness.
“I’m now working with top athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo and I have grown so much to the extent of operating globally, helping athletes from different sporting codes.
“I also assist individuals in many communities all over the world to live healthy.”
He said he has shifted his focus to help local athletes and he has already approached several Premiership clubs. “I believe that our sport codes can improve if we also move forward with modern technology and nutrition as well.
“I noticed that nutrition is a huge factor within our athletes because eating healthy is expensive and not everyone can afford it.
“Most athletes are even training on empty stomach and they don’t respect their eating timetable and this affects their fitness.”
