AN fertiliser ‘beyond A2 farmers’ reach’

Agriculture Reporter
Many farmers cannot afford to buy ammonium nitrate top-dressing for cash, and may face reduced yields.
The most affected are A2 farmers who failed to borrow from banks.
A number of farmers who have a good crop after the good rains are losing hope of a good harvest after failing to buy top dressing fertilisers.
Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers’ Union president Mr Wonder Chabikwa said the bulk of the early planted crop was in good condition but was now in critical need for top dressing fertilisers.

“If farmers could have access to fertilisers, we are assured of a good harvest. We are afraid the crop will be wasted due to the non-application of ammonium nitrate,” he said.

Mr Chabikwa said the situation was better for the 1,6 million communal farmers who received inputs from the Presidential Well Wishers scheme.
