Baleka Mbete declined nomination, as did Motlanthe, leaving Mathews Phosa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and Tokyo Sexwale running for the position.
Baleka Mbete and Thandi Modise were nominated for the position of chairperson, while Gwede Mantashe and Fikile Mbalula were nominated for secretary-general.
There was only one nomination for deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, which means there will be no voting for this position.
Paul Mashatile and Zweli Mkhize are in the running for the position of treasurer general, after Tokyo Sexwale and Lindiwe Sisulu declined nominations for the position. There are 4 075 voting delegates.
According to a report by City Press, politics of the slate ruled at the nomination process of the elective conference. Slates are lists that package leaders, and voters are urged to vote for the candidates as a group.
During the nominations process most candidates who did not feature prominently on the slates topped by Zuma and Motlanthe withdrew from the process.
