ANC outraged by article on Ramaphosa

Polokwane – The ANC said it was outraged, but not surprised, by a newspaper article at the weekend which claimed that the party’s deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa received a cold welcome in Seshego, Limpopo. The party said City Press newspaper displayed “shameless sensationalism” in its report on Ramaphosa’s visit to the area at the weekend.

The newspaper said that Ramaphosa was jeered and one man refused to shake his hand as he walked the streets of Julius Malema’s neighbourhood.

But the ANC said Ramaphosa’s visit to Seshego, as part of a voter registration drive, was successful and the ANC’s message was warmly received.

“In Seshego, the deputy president was greeted by a throng of local ANC supporters who sang and walked with him around the area.
“He shook the hands of residents who had lined up the street to greet him, including those of a handful of EFF young men who were standing near the voting station. Only one EFF member refused to shake his hand.”

The party said Ramaphosa was invited into residents’ homes and only one apparently drunk man refused the deputy president entry into a home.

City Press reported that a man told Ramaphosa “Go away, go away. You are not welcome here. This is my home. People are dying because of the ANC”. –  News24
