Andy Miller on fire!

Finest” the show has all the markings of a thrilling night out with superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, Tongai Moyo, Alick Macheso, Winky D and Suluman Chimbetu all coming together to thrill their legion of fans.
The youthful musicians, Suluman or Sulu in short as well as Winky D aka Bigiman are riding high in their genres transforming the gig to suit both the young and the mature.

The Bigiman appeals to a crossover audience especially now that he is backed by a live band. During his last outing at the City Sports Centre, the Bigiman proved his mettle as a composer, songwriter and chanter.
He never runs short of ideas and each performance is refreshingly executed although it is difficult for any musician to satisfy their fans.
Perhaps this is the reason some critics compared Bigiman aka “the Messi of Dancehall” to international performers like Beenie Man and Elephant Man.

The same could be said of Sulu, who we all know is riding on the success of his late father Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu.
One thing that has put Sulu on the spotlight is his zeal and energy on stage. whichever way you look at the line up, you get the feeling that this could be the gig that only comes once in a year like Christmas.
The popular music icon Mtukudzi who is lovingly called Tuku by his multitude of fans, Macheso or simply Extrabasso and Tongai aka Dhewa have been lined up to perform alongside the youthful musicians in what

appears to be mouth watering gig so far this year. Given such a bill, the question that most Zimbabwean music followers are asking is who will curtain raise at the gig. From the look of things, expectations are high from fans and the line up confirms what music lovers have been waiting for in a long time. Organisers of the gig, Chipaz Promotions, must have been in a quandary as to which artiste will perform what and when.

However, Partson Chimbodza the organiser of the show, confirmed at the weekend that Dhewa was likely to open the act followed by the Bigiman, thereafter it will be Sulu’s time to shine before Tuku graces the stage with his katekwe hits.

“We are encouraging fans to avoid last minute rush and disappointment regarding advance tickets. The tickets will be available at Chicken Slice, Jazz 105, Plaza De Castilla and Goldtek shops starting from 8am to 2pm,” he said.

Bringing the curtain down on the event will be none other than Extrabasso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit. It can be argued that whoever plays after Tuku will have to do something extraordinary, as most fans regard the “Meso Piriviri” singer as the best hitmaker in Zimbabwe.
But there is an old saying that says an artiste is as good as his last gig, so maybe the focus will not be on Tuku as Extrabasso is a tried and tested performer.

As most show goers already know by now the “Madhawu” singer is an accomplished artiste whose performances are as varied as his music.
His inclusion on the bill is expected to add colour and energy to what may already have been a star-studded concert.

We have seen sungura battles on stage and whichever way you look at it, Extrabasso and Dhewa are expected to do it like they have never done it before. Many will remember the Chibuku Road to Fame that featured Tuku, Extrabasso and Dhewa on one night and it was the sungura artistes who turned on the energy and style.

A repeat of that show is likely to be seen at the “Zim’s Finest” which is essentially another platform for musicians to showcase themselves.
Perhaps to find out who is going do what and how make a date with “Zim’s Finest” tomorrow night gig and you won’t regret being there.
