ANDY Muridzo says he is humbled that major corporate organisations are still showing interest in him as an artist despite the negativity he has battled in his career.

The 33-year-old artist has been stalked by negative headlines since he exploded on the big stage. He is happy that the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA) have shown faith in his brand at a time when “haters are trailing me like a shadow.”

The Jeetaz Band leader performed at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival for Harare Province at Werras Gardens over the weekend.

“Most of the time I am portrayed as a hot head but I am trying my best to lead by example.I am just an ordinary lad who is driven by passion for my job. I think I was born a musician and I want to be a role model.

“I didn’t know that I still have organisations which support my vision, and I will always cherish this love.

“To be given this kind of an opportunity is more than a triumph for me.”

He praised the NACZ and the ZNTDA for preserving Zimbabwe’s rich culture through dance.

“It’s quite encouraging that we still have associations which are committed to preserving our identity through such initiatives like the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festivals. I will always support such initiatives, both as a music fan, and an artist.

“I love my culture and I am not shy to say this because it is something that I love and cherish.”

This year’s edition is running under the theme ‘Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane.’
