More than 23 percent of the 474 candidates who scored 15 points and above in last year’s Advanced Level public examinations in Manicaland province were learners at schools run by the Anglican Church.
In total, 112 learners from the church’s schools passed with flying colours after notching at least 15 points in the exams.
The church’s flagship institution, St Faith’s High School, continues to rule the roost after 44 pupils passed with 15 points and above. Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Bishop Reverend Erick Ruwona said:
“We note with pride that our schools continue performing very well both at O and A Level.
“This motivates us to forge ahead with our aim as the Diocese of Manicaland to make the province the education hub of Zimbabwe. In fact, we have a vision and we will not rest until we establish 36 boarding schools by 2030.”
At St David’s High School, 28 learners scored 15 points and above.
Thirty-five candidates from St Augustine’s High School notched at least 15 points.
Founding chairperson of ZANU, who was also the first African lawyer to be admitted to the bar in Rhodesia, the late Herbert Chitepo, was a St Augustine alumnus.
Bishop Ruwona said: “Special thanks goes to the current leadership of our schools.
“St Matthias High School results have improved exponentially with four pupils attaining 15 points and above. The school now leads the pack as it is now a registered Cambridge exam centre.
“Not to be outdone is St Anne’s High School for recording four passes of 15 points and above.
“Despite being on the other end of Binya road, St Mary Magdalene produced one with 15 points.
“This means that the new administration is shaping up.”
