Angry Mawiwi cries foul

manhandled by the home team’s marshals and was then soaked in two litres of urine before the explosive encounter which ended in a 1-1 draw.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult match because FC Platinum had not won their last three matches,” said Mawiwi.

“The pitch was wet and I presume this was to frustrate us from playing our passing game. Some sections of the field were actually water-logged and I was ill-treated by some FC Platinum marshals when I was inspecting the field and laying the cones for warm-up.

“Almost two litres of urine was poured on my back as I walked into the field and I was also sprinkled with some coarse salt.

“Even our dressing room and all the way leading to the field was littered with salt and the match commissioner witnessed this while we also recorded a video.”

Mawiwi said the treatment he received at Mandava was one of his worst during his entire spell in domestic football.

“I have worked at Dynamos and we went to Highlanders but I was never treated like what happened last weekend,” said the soft-spoken coach.

“This was one of my worst experiences in football and I was humiliated but as a born-again Christian I have forgiven the marshals and moved on.”

The coach said he will give his players a rest this week before they resume training next week.

“We are going to take a rest for one week and then resume our preparations next week.

“Our next game should be against Monomotapa and then we play back-to-back matches with Hwange,” said Mawiwi.

His ambitious side are third on the log and Mawiwi said they are firmly in the running for the championship.

The PSL championship marathon is just two matches away from reaching the halfway stage and chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, has advised the clubs to re-charge their batteries during the current two-week break.

He said from this break, it could be non-stop until the end of the season.

The league is taking a break this weekend to allow the Warriors to prepare for the World Cup qualifier against Egypt at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Yesterday, the Warriors started trooping into camp and will hold their first work out this morning while Zimbabwe will then travel to Guinea on the weekend of June 15-16, for another World Cup qualifier.
Action in the Castle Lager Premiership will then resume with Week 14 fixtures on June 19, mid-week, before the first round matches are completed on the weekend of June 22-23.

Ndebele yesterday informed all clubs that the league games are taking a two-week break and the programme will, on resumption, then run continuously until the end of the season.

“This serves to confirm that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League will take a two-week break from June 3, 2013 to June 18, 2013.

“This is to allow the Zimbabwe Senior National team to adequately prepare for the Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

“The League matches will resume on Wednesday June 19, 2013,” said Ndebele.

After reaching the half-way mark, the league traditionally takes a small break but Ndebele said they will have a tight programme to complete the League and Cup matches before the start of the rainy season.

“I do not think that we should be taking another break once we resume the fixtures on Wednesday June 19. We still have to accommodate the quarter-finals of the BancABC Sup8r Cup and the Mbada Diamonds Cup matches also.

“The national team will also be involved in the Cosafa and CHAN matches and I am still to consult Zifa on the actual dates,” said Ndebele.

As the league takes a break, Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa said he was pleased with their progress.

“So far so good for us. If we look at the table, we are in second position and this is okay but we need to improve our midfield,” said Pasuwa.

The defending league champions remain the only team with an unbeaten run in the league this season and they have gone for 20 games, without losing a match, since last season.

But it could take them a while before they can match the milestone achieved by rivals Highlanders last year,  of going for 23 league matches without defeat.

Bosso reached the landmark when they reached 23 league matches without defeat in one season and DeMbare’s 2-0 win over Black Rhinos means that the Harare giants have not tasted defeat in a domestic match since their 1-0 defeat to Chicken Inn during Week 23 last year.

DeMbare managed to avoid defeats in the seven remaining matches of the 2012 season and added to the 13 matches played this year, the Glamour Boys are somewhat close to emulating the Bosso landmark, albeit from two seasons.
