ANGRY ROW

ENGLAND boss Thomas Tuchel apparently had a row with Jordan Pickford DURING their win over Croatia.

The England manager’s on-pitch argument with his goalkeeper came with the Three Lions 1-0 up in Dallas, Texas.

Geoff Shreeves is working as a sideline reporter for Fox on the US coverage of the World Cup.And he provided the report 17 minutes into the first half.

Shreeves said that Pickford’s row with Tuchel came over the goalkeeper not following instructions about passing it out from the back.Pickford was apparently off balance when he played out to the wrong direction from his manager’s orders.

Fox’s Shreeves reported: “Just now Jordan Pickford was on his left side and off balance and still picked up.

“Thomas Tuchel was straight out to the touchline and said ‘no, put it out to the right back, you don’t go that side’.

“Pickford had a little go back and Tuchel was not impressed.“He told him ‘you know what you’re supposed to do, do as I told you.’”

England led through a controversial early penalty from Harry Kane.

The Bayern Munich striker saw his first attempt from the penalty spot saved.

But Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic was adjudged to have been off his line when he stopped the attempt.

Kane restored England’s lead with a towering header from a corner shortly afterwards.

But Croatia leveled it just before half-time with a goal from Petar Musa.

Second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford gave England a 4-2 victory.Tuchel and his staff were far from impressed with what they had seen in the opening 45 minutes.

Speaking to ITV during the break, assistant boss Anthony Barry admitted the Three Lions had made a “nervous” start.

He said: “A complicated and confusing first half from us.

“A lot of nervous energy which may be excusable in the first game of the World Cup.

“We made some decisions when the energy wasn’t free in our minds, playing long when we should have played short and playing short when we should have played long.

“Fearful patterns. No threaded passes to accelerate game.”—Sun.
