THE Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa will hold their annual meeting in Victoria Falls in February next year. The ANOCA executive had a meeting in Mauritius recently and now meet in Victoria Falls to map the way forward.
The issue of doping took centre stage in Mauritius.
The ANOCA executive will also discuss Africa’s participation at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Africa Union’s engagement in anti-doping as well as how to make sure athletes continue to participate in sport after the Games.
The 16th ANOCA annual general indiba explored the possibility of having an African Village.
The hospitality centre for African nations competing at London 2012 was closed because of unpaid debts.
The meeting in Mauritius was chaired by ANOCA president Lassana Palenfo of Cote d’Ivoire.
“Extra effort must be taken to improve anti-doping programmes ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach, told delegates attending the ANOCA General Assembly in Port Louis.
The Olympics boss said the NOCs must strive to catch cheats or all teams risk being tainted and associated with cheating.
