THE 2015 Partridges Under-13 cricket tournament begun yesterday at St George’s College in Harare and will end tomorrow. The tournament has eight teams – Easterns, Harare Development, Harare North, Harare South, Midlands, Mashonaland West, Matabeleland and South-East Districts, which has players from the Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.
The tournament features 12 matches of the 45-over format.
It is designed to allow for as much play as possible.
For example, if the side batting first is bowled out before their allotted overs, the remaining overs will be given to the side batting second.
If a match ends with more than three hours of play left in the day, the managers can organise a shortened match so that those players who did not feature in the main match can also play.
Further, because every member of the squad has to be utilised in every game, the player who sits out as the 12th man in the first innings, will participate in the second innings.
Every day, each side plays one match.
Tomorrow, there are four matches again with the four winners from yesterday playing against each other and the four losers also paired.
The same format is adopted for the four matches tomorrow, based on today’s results.
A Partridges XI will be selected at the end of the tournament.
Their first match will be against the national under-14 side that is preparing for a tour of South Africa.
