One person was seriously injured while goods worth thousands of dollars (mainly fabric) was reduced to ashes after a fire broke out at a shop, Mangas Fabric, located along Fidel Castro Road formerly Charter Road, on Friday afternoon.
The fire started around noon and was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Witnesses said they heard a loud bang just before the fire started.
“The shop owner locked the shop and went for his weekly prayer at the Mosque as usual when we heard a loud bang, like a tyre burst, from inside the shop and we immediately rushed to see what had happened,” said one of the witnesses
“One of the girls we were with went inside to see what had happened and she was caught up in the fire. She sustained serious burns and was later rushed to the hospital.”
The fire incident comes just a few days after another that destroyed the Mbare Traders Market on Tuesday evening,
