Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere on Friday handed over ICT equipment to Madziwa FM during the official launch of the community radio station.
The equipment, including a printer and computers, was provided by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal, and Courier Services.
Madziwa FM has been broadcasting for a year and is one of the 16 community radio stations in the country.
Dr Muswere said that the country also has seven campus radio stations as part of efforts to accelerate universal access to information.
This year’s International Day of Universal Access to Information was commemorated at Madziwa FM.
Madziwa FM’s marketing officer Mr Tatenda Changachirere expressed gratitude to the Government for the license and emphasised the close collaboration with local leaders in expanding their transmission coverage.
He also thanked the Ministry of ICT, Postal, and Courier Services for providing equipment that will enhance the quality of their production.
The equipment includes gadgets for out-of-studio podcasting.
Mr Changachirere stressed the importance of local journalists in providing accurate information.
“Our stories in Madziwa cannot be told by people in Harare who rely on phone calls,” he said.
“We have ward-based journalists who give us information which we verify with traditional leaders.”
