Police officers have been urged to deliver quality service by exercising a high level of professionalism characterised by visible and responsible policing. Addressing senior officers in Mashonaland East Province in Marondera recently, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga urged officers to raise their performance to meet the expectations of the nation.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my vision for the organisation is that all police efforts should positively answer to the mandate placed upon the organisation by section 219 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, every officer must execute their day-to-day duties with total regard to our long enduring motto, “For the law, for the country and for the people”.

“The vision of ZRP is simply that all officers must deliver quality service that is characterised by visible and responsible policing predicted on a high level of professionalism, dedication, team work, unity of purpose and loyalty to both the organisation and the country,” said Comm-Gen Matanga.

He urged all commanders to have strong supervisory mechanisms to enhance operational and administrative efficiency. “Every officer must adopt a new work ethic, by this, they must put the welfare of the people first before their own comfort.

“Officers must also advance the interests of the nation first before personal consideration,” he said. He reiterated that officers must shun any form of corruption and indiscipline.

“It is imperative that police officers remain steadfast on zero tolerance against corruption and indiscipline, the world over, these twin evils are notorious for paralysing numerous organisations.

“It is undeniable that corruption is crime of greed and not need hence the organisation will weed out all misguided elements who seek to tarnish the image of the organisation by indulging in corrupt activities,” he said.

Turning to officers’ welfare, Comm-Gen Matanga said the tour will help him to appreciate the challenges facing officers and the organisation.

He promised to look into them as he articulates the organisation’s vision.
