Artistes in Mutare have lined-up a day-long musical gala to raise awareness on the effects of drugs and substances abuse.
The musical event which is expected to draw entertainers, including DJs, emcees and visual artistes is expected to make an impact in the fight against drugs and substances abuse.
The scourge is destroying the future of many young people in Manicaland and the country at large.
One of the organisers of the event, Jairos Mutambikwa, who is also one of Mutare’s celebrated gospel artistes, said the event will be held in the near future at a venue to be announced.

Agatha Murudzwa, Dorcas Moyo, Blessing Shumba, Simba Muchita, Brian Samaita, Sinatra Padera, Shepherdize, Joseph Makureya, Wallace BlackFirm, Expression Band, Nomusa Mangami as well as DJs and emcees Bento, Ranga T, Slimphat and Spillz are some of the entertainers expected to grace the event.
“We came up with this initiative to unite all creatives in the arts industry, particularly those in Manicaland, for a worthy cause. It is disheartening to see some promising young people being ruined by drugs.
“They are indulging in guka, mutoriro and dagga, among other dangerous drugs. As artistes, we are torchbearers because it is very easy for people to believe in their celebrities. We feel it is our duty as content creators to get things right by giving the community the correct lyrical content that discourages drug abuse.

“As artistes in Manicaland, we have decided to take a stand against drug abuse as it has caused untold suffering among our children, brothers and sisters,” said Mutambikwa.
“However, this life changing gala has no sponsors. We are appealing to the corporate world, stakeholders and the business community to come on board and make the event a success.
“It is also an opportunity for fans to meet their favourite celebrities. We are thankful to God because most musicians have agreed to be part of the event, except a few who are occupied with other commitments,” said Mutambikwa.
