Upcoming afro-jazz artiste Reginald “Mr Regie” Murinda released a new video last Friday for his song “Stop Killing the Animals”.
The song chronicles the treatment of Zimbabwe’s wildlife that is being threatened by poachers.
“Stop Killing the Animals” is taken off his recent eight-track album titled “The Early Bird” that has received good airplay on both radio and television.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Mr Regie said he was deeply moved by the way elephants and rhinos especially are being poached daily.
“This song is preaching the gospel of anti-poaching as a means to protect the affected animals such as pangolins and rhinos that are already facing extinction in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabweans should unite against wildlife poachers because animals should be preserved for our future generations and poachers should be given stiffer penalties, even a lifetime in jail,” he said.
He has toured most wildlife parks such as Gonarezhou and Hwange and the way animals were being poached daily inspired him to be an advocate for change.
“Our animals are our heritage we are all responsible for their well-being and it is time for us to change the status quo and be proactive about fighting poaching in Zimbabwe.
“The recent poaching scandal of the pangolin was well handled by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate as the poacher was sentenced to nine good years in jail.
“My video adequately shows how these animals suffer from heartless poachers and many have been moved by this,” he said.
Mr Regie has released three albums since 2009, all produced by Diamond Studios.
Diamond Studios named “The Early Bird” as best stable album of 2014.
He is scheduled to tour South Africa and Botswana next month.
