Anticipation rises for kart drivers, fans

AS round 4 of the Kart Sport Club and ROK Cup Zimbabwe championship approaches, anticipation is rising among drivers, teams, and spectators.

To the competitors, it’s not just a race; it’s a celebration of skill, passion and the spirit of sportsmanship that defines the kart racing community within the club.

The track, within the National Sports Stadium venue in Harare, is the creation of long-time karting enthusiast Kevin Dufty.

He and his team have built a premier karting venue featuring a world-class race and rental kart track facility, which is the official home of both the Kart Sport Club and the ROK Cup championship.

Track development began in 2022 and opened at the beginning of the 2023 race season.

This weekend, a good entry in the Kid ROK Class, which caters to the club’s youngest top guns, is expected.

Championship leader Zack Staples (Kosmic Kart) is set to defend his lead, but he is being chased hard by Rayaan Savania (Tony Kart) and Elroy Shamu (Kosmic Kart).

A younger group comprising Sheunesu Shambare (Praga kart), Manuel Mukori (Kosmic), and rookie Jake Edwards (Kosmic) will contend for podium positions if the front runner’s falter.

The racing in the Mini ROK Class has been very close this season and is expected to be a great battle between front runners Seth Rukato (Tony), Yaseen Savania (Kosmic), and Eli Pilossof (Parolin Kart).

At the halfway mark Rukato leads the ROK Cup championship by 8 points, but with 35 points on offer for a win, the competition looks inseparable.

Devin van de Linde (Tony), Matthew Mukori (Kosmic), and Ehsaan Savania (Tony) are also in the hunt for podium finishes and will provide some great action as they push to join the front-pack.

In the last round, the very fast 125 Max class proved to be a hectic day of racing with non-stop action and fierce racing.

The season’s main championship protagonists, Zaydaan Savania and Jaedon Masiyanise, remain in a tight title fight, with only 15 points separating them after three rounds.

They will be joined by Yeftach Sivan and young Tawana Shambare, both of whom will be fighting for podium places.

Rookie brother and sister combination Zayyan and Deanna Savania are out to improve on their solid results from the last meeting and are looking forward to another confidence-building outing.

From young drivers to seasoned veterans, this class showcases a broad spectrum of talent and passion, all united by a singular goal — victory!

Entries for the Pole Position ProKart series were filled within 48 hours and show interest in this ex-citing class.

The series, which was introduced to bridge the gap between leisure and race karts, has proved a popular formula for aspiring kart racers.

Currently, the championship is led by Moe Moosa with Shaun Chifamba and Simba Nyamande in very close attendance.

With four different classes catering for various skill levels and age brackets, the series ensures a competitive edge across the board.

However, the racing isn’t the only aspect that sets the Kart Sport Club Championship apart.

At the heart of the event lies a vibrant and supportive race community, where camaraderie between drivers and teams is unparalleled.

Despite the fierce competition on the track, off-track friendships flourish, developing an atmosphere of mutual respect and sportsmanship.  Kart racing action at the National Sports Stadium starts at 10am.
