The National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has received an apheresis machine that will enhance critical blood services from the Kevin Estment and Beit Trust.

In a speech delivered on his behalf during the handover ceremony by a director in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Wanlas Nyamayaro, the Permanent Secretary Dr Aspect Maunganidze hailed the donation as a beacon of hope for countless lives, since it will facilitate timely treatments.

“The machine, valued for its advanced medical technology, will collect specific blood components for conditions like cancer, trauma and chronic illnesses,” he said.

Mr Maunganidze urged medical professionals and support staff to emulate Estment’s example in their service to the community.

“Today we honor you, Kevin, for turning grief into assistance for others. This is both inspiring and remarkable,” he said.

“Special mention goes to all staff at Milton Park Medical Centre and the NBSZ staff for everything they did for Kevin and his family during Belinda’s stay.”

The NBSZ chief executive officer Ms Lucy Mary Marowa said the machine will significantly enhance resources, doubling Zimbabwe’s apheresis capacity.

“This machine will change the way we treat people. Before this, we had only one functional machine in the country,” she said.

Mr Estment thanked the NBS and Milton Park Hospital for the assistance they gave to his wife which prompted him to initiate the donation.

“Much of my appreciation goes to the NBS team and Milton Park Hospital for their support during my wife’s time of need. I found out that when she needed blood, there was only one machine available,” he said.

“Hence, we initiated this donation. I hope my support will go a long way in strengthening health systems in Zimbabwe.”
