Churches under the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) in Beitbridge have thrown their weight behind the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, spreading a message of hope and unity.

Representatives of various affiliate churches who gathered in the border town on Sunday emphasised the importance of embracing continuity in Government programmes, citing the need for stability and development.

Matabeleland South’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, and ACCZ President Archbishop Edgar Maireva joined church leaders at the event that attracted a full house.

Speaking during the event, Archbishop Maireva urged congregants to support the Bill, stating it aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 goals and to pray for the current leadership to continue carrying out their mandate fully.

“As religious leaders, we appreciate the work that is being carried out by the Government of the day, led by President Mnangagwa, and as such we need to continue to work together to achieve our developmental targets,” he said.

“We can’t continue being in election mode, which is toxic at times, and now we have a peaceful environment. Let us allow the God-chosen leadership to complete the projects they initiated, which are there for all to see.

“These include housing, road and dam construction, and one such huge milestone is the modernisation of the Beitbridge Border Post and its out-of-port projects, and the construction of a highway linking Beitbridge and Harare.”

Continued Archbishop Maireva, “So this Bill promotes stability and accountability, crucial for our nation’s growth, and as religious leaders we are fully endorsing it with the thousands of our followers.”

The church leaders’ endorsement adds to the growing support for the Bill, seen as a step towards strengthening Zimbabwe’s governance structures.

The ACCZ’s stance reflects the broader desire for peace, unity and progress in Beitbridge and beyond.

Speaking during the same event, Bishop Johan Shamhuyenhanzva from Mugodhi Apostolic Church highlighted the Bill’s potential to promote stability and development, which aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 goals.

“We recognise the progress that has been made by the Second Republic in a short space of time, and hence we are giving the Government our full support to continue on the path of real national development and transformation,” he said.

“As the King of Heaven Apostolic Church, we live true to the word of God and believe in the Government of the day. So, let us allow them to continue leading us until we achieve the envisaged Vision 2030,” said Bishop Amos Chibaya, leader of the King of Heaven Apostolic Church.

“We have seen the good works on the ground and we have no doubt of their capacity to deliver, and hence we encourage Zimbabweans to fully support the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3.”

Reverend Pail Tendaupenyu of the Church of Christ said they had noted a lot of legacy projects carried out by the Second Republic in infrastructure development and that the Government needs to be given more time to complete all the outstanding high-impact projects.

Minister Nguluvhe said the event and endorsement of the Bill by the churches was a clear indication of what can be achieved if the Church and the Government move together with a shared vision.

He also explained the process around extending the term of Parliament, the President and the local authorities’ policymakers, urging citizens to support the Bill for the nation’s progress.

“What we have witnessed here today showcases our Government’s and churches’ commitment to working together towards a common goal – a prosperous Zimbabwe,” said Minister Nguluvhe.

“We appreciate the full support of the Church, and this endorsement is a clear testimony that the Bill is not being imposed on people but is coming from the citizens.

“Good deeds always bring good results and, to us, this kind of support highlights the good work the Government is doing under the stewardship of our President, Dr ED Mnangagwa.”
