An apostolic sect member in Chitungwiza, who is a nurse by profession landed himself in trouble after he allegedly barred his 10-year-old daughter from attending school citing that it is against his church doctrine.

Muchandibaya Masaraure (33) of 208 St Mary’s in Chitungwiza was once convicted and fined $100 for the same offence in May this year at the magistrate’s court.

He was last Friday again arraigned before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo on charges of ill-treatment of young persons.

Masaraure was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded to August 17 on $50 bail.

Prosecutor Mrs Tsitsi Mugadza told the court that sometime in May this year, Masaraure, who is a member of Johane Masowe was convicted at the same court for failing to send his child to school.

The court heard that after paying the fine, Masaraure never heeded the call to honour the order to send his child to school. It is alleged that Masaraure remained adamant on the issue claiming that sending the minor to school is detrimental to his church doctrine.

The minor’s mother Brandina reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
