CHAIRPERSON of the African Peer Review Mechanism National Governing Council Ambassador James Manzou has described the Targeted Peer Review Mission as a significant achievement for Zimbabwe, demonstrating Government and stakeholders’ commitment to strengthening good governance, accountability and sustainable development.
Speaking at the APRM National Governing Council’s quarterly meeting held in Harare, Ambassador Manzou said the Mission also provided insightful lessons.
Zimbabwe undertook the targeted peer review on good governance and management in November last year.
“Distinguished members of the Governing Council, the journey since our last meeting in 2025 has been both demanding and historic. It is historic in the sense that this was our first review.
“So, Zimbabwe has moved from the Targeted Review Mission through validation and peer review, to the development of the National Action Programme.
“This progress represents a significant achievement for Zimbabwe and demonstrates the commitment of Government and all stakeholders to strengthening good governance, accountability, and sustainable development through the APRM framework.
“Throughout this journey, we have been learning a lot of things, and even when you look back, you will see that there are a lot of things that we learned.
“As I said, an organisation that does not learn will not grow. We want to grow.
“Although we did very well, we want to do even better,” he said.
The meeting was attended by several Provincial Permanent Secretaries for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, representatives from universities and other stakeholders.
