The National Archives of Zimbabwe director Mr Ivan Munhamu Murambiwa has died.

He was 56.

Mr Murambiwa (pictured above) died on Saturday at West End Hospital in Harare.

The Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Ministry yesterday expressed its condolences to the Murambiwa family following the passing on of their beloved one and paid tribute to the renowned historian and academic.

The ministry said the death of Mr Murambiwa had robbed the archaeological and archival professions of a devout professional who served both the Government and the nation at large diligently.

“The ministry has been robbed of a hard-working professional, who has left a legacy that will forever be cherished,” said the ministry in a statement.

Mr Murambiwa graduated with a BA Honours Degree in History at the University of Zimbabwe which he completed in 1987.

In 1990, Mr Murambiwa won the coveted Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship which afforded him an opportunity to study for a Masters of Philosophy in Heritage Management from the University of Cambridge.
