his could probably be one of Oskido’s first tracks when he takes to the decks tonight at the Christmas party dubbed Oskido, the All White Party at Stop Over Bar. The fiery mixmaster brings his unique brand of turntable magic that earned him various accolades and awards as a premier of house music across the Limpopo and beyond, Zimbabwe’s entertainment capital, Bulawayo.
Show promoter Vusumuzi Siqalaba said it was all systems go tonight.
“The stage is set for the All White party and we are expecting fans to be clad in white outfits in tandem with the theme.
He said Oskido will jet in this afternoon in time for the evening show. “Oskido will touch down at Joshua Mqabuko International Airport at around lunch time tomorrow (today) and will be at Stop Over Bar for the show,” he said.
Siqalaba said tickets will be sold at $10 and gates open at 6pm.
“The show will start at 6pm till the next day. We have tight security and ice cold beers to keep people in the festive mood till the break of dawn,” he said.
Siqalaba said locally-based comedian, Babongile Sikhonjwa would spice up the party as the master of ceremony adding: “Lucky readers of the Chronicle will get Oskido’s CDs courtesy of the show organisers in the run up to the show.”
Oskido’s Christmas gigs have become an annual feature on the local entertainment calendar. Meanwhile, the competition continues as more lucky fans win tickets for the Kalawa Home Coming Show.
Goerge Ngwenya of Nketa 5 and Thando Dube of Nkulumane 12 each won tickets, while Tinotenda Man’ozho who lives at United College of Education won herself a CD album by Winnie Khumalo called Higher and Higher.
An elated Ngwenya said: “-I am excited to be one of the winners of the tickets. I was not expecting to win I just entered the competition for the fun of it. It pays to read the Chronicle and I will definitely end the year in style.”
Dube said she was looking forward to an awesome show. Tinotenda said she would not miss the show for anything in the world.
The evergreen and amazingly creative Oskido has over the years come up with memorable shows in which he never fails to exceed the high standard he would have set the previous year.
Oskido is highly regarded as one of the top South African house and kwaito artistes who have taken the music genre to a higher level.
He has churned out hit after hit in recent years and his stable, Kalawa Jazmee is rated among the best in Africa.
His hit track Tsa Mandebele released last year was named as 12th Metro FM song of the year, beating DJ Zinhle’s (the first lady of Kalawa) My name is (Zinhle), Fistaz Mixwell’s Hade Mabebeza, Zonke’s Feelings, L’vovo Derrango’s Palesa and DJ Tira’s 4000 in a tightly contested category earlier this year.
Oskido has produced and nurtured numerous artistes such as Bongo Maffin, Boom Shaka, Berita Khumalo and Mafikizolo. Born to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother, Oskido’s career is a fairytale one. After leaving Zimbabwe to seek greener pastures in South Africa, he started out selling boerewors rolls from a stall outside Club Razzmatazz in Hillbrow.
