In a statement last Friday Yousuf had said he now wanted to end his remaining year in office but after yesterday’s meeting the golfer opted to step down with immediate effect.
In his earlier statement he had said: “My executive and myself were voted in for a period of two years, I will still remain in office until April 2013.”
Despite saying that he had retracted his resignation the sources involved had not received the letters but were waiting for yesterday, which was the final day.
The Country Club based professional golfer has been in the office for the past three years having been elected in February 2009.
During his tenure there has been the birth of the Zambezi Tour.
Yousuf came into office to replace Roy da Costa who had taken over after the death of Nasho Kamungeremu in August 2007.
Professional golfers are having their tournaments organised by the Zambezi Tour.
ZPGA is now there only to act as a trade union that represents the interests of the golfers.
Yousuf is an ex-officio member of the board open committee.
He was instrumental in the amendment of the constitution and sits in the on the board as the players’ representative.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe finished tied fourth at this year’s edition of the Zone VI championships in Malawi.
The team managed 13 points and was tied with the hosts.
South Africa won after they accumulated 22.5 points.
The Zimbabwe team is expected back home today.
Last year, the Zimbabweans finished third.
South Africa won the tournament for the second time in a row while Namibia was second on 15 points.
Last year’s hosts Kenya came out third with 13.5 points.
Uganda finished sixth on 12.5 points and Tanzania came seventh on 10.5 points.
Mauritius were last with four points.
